Thuro Skateboarding: Choosing The Right Deck Size

Interested in buying your first skateboard, but not quite sure what size to go for? We've got you covered with this size guide.

When it comes to street skateboards, the width is what's important. Most boards fall in the range of 7.5 to 8.5 inches wide, with mini boards being as small as 7 inches and certain shaped boards going as large as 10 inches.

The first factor in choosing your board size is your size. Larger skaters generally go for larger boards to compensate for their bigger feet and smaller center of balance. For anyone under 5 feet tall we suggest buying a board 7.5 inches or smaller, and for anyone over 6 feet tall we recommend 8 inches or larger.

The other factor that determines the size of your board is the style of skating you do. Technical skaters will likely want a smaller board that will flip more easily, while rail and transition skaters will probably want to go bigger for some extra balance. However, there is no ideal size for learning, so no need to worry if you're a beginner.
